The quaint town of Plettenberg Bay is a well-known holiday destination for anyone looking to experience the beauty of South Africa. Situated on the border of the Eastern and Western Cape, it forms part of the scenic Garden Route.  

The town area is surrounded by beautiful views of the Indian Ocean, Tsitsikamma and Langkloof Mountains, as well as the Knysna Forest, and exquisite beaches. The tropical landscape overflows with Cape Fynbos and Knysna-Amatole montane forest vegetation, contributing to one of the most biodiverse and naturally rich environments in the world.

The annual rainfall is significant at an average of 912mm per year, with the driest and warmest month being February. August has the highest rainfall of the year, with July being the coldest month.

Robberg Nature Reserve

A short 10min drive from Sugarbakers Villa lies the exceptional Robberg Nature Reserve, a world heritage site and a must-see for anyone visiting Plettenberg Bay.

This national monument offers breathtakingly scenic hiking trails and picnic areas, nestled in an abundant vegetation landscape of Cape Fynbos. This floral kingdom forms part of one of the world’s richest areas for plant biodiversity. 

Robberg Nature Reserve is also known for its diverse wildlife. It’s home to a large Cape Fur seal colony (visible from the hiking trails), the rare blue duiker (the smallest antelope in the Western Cape), a variety of bird species, and dassies (rock hyrax). 

This spot is also popular for other regular wildlife sightings such as dolphins, whales, and the occasional great white shark.
